2010 marks the tenth birthday of the Öresund Region. Almost a decade has passed since the opening of the bridge between Sweden and Denmark heralded the birth of our trans-national region. Since then old obstacles have been dismantled, new opportunities have arisen, and today an expansive region has become a reality. These are all achievements that we are eager to celebrate.

One of the ways in which we will be celebrating is a race across the bridge – but a party as big as the one we’re looking forward to doesn’t just happen by itself… That’s why we hope you and your business or organisation will contribute with your own arrangements for 2010. We look forward to hearing more about what you have planned.

The Bridge Race 2010
Broløbet 2010, a half-marathon across the Öresund Bridge, forms part of the plans for celebrating the region’s 10th jubilee. Arranged by Öresundsbron in partnership with Malmö Athletics Association (MAI) and race organisers Sparta in Copenhagen, it will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, 12 June 2010, starting in Kastrup (Denmark) and finishing 21.1 kilometres away in Malmö (Sweden). For safety reasons, the bridge will be closed for traffic for approximately one and a half hours. The number of runners is limited to 30,000 and applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis – so don’t delay! You can register today on www.sparta.dk or www.mai.se

Mark the 10th jubilee in your own way
Organisations and individuals on both sides of the Sound have already begun to plan activities in conjunction with the region’s 10th jubilee. We hope that a great number of companies, organisations and public bodies will contribute to the festivities with their own arrangements – large and small alike – before or after the jubilee race. Our ambition is for the occasion to be represented by as many aspects of life in the Öresund Region as possible. To attract maximum attention around all of those who help to celebrate this milestone, the Forum for Marketing Öresund has set up a steering committee and a secretariat to work with the anniversary celebrations and other events linked to the jubilee.

A symbol with a deeper meaning
As a common thread that creates a clear link between all the various events and arrangements, we have produced a special symbol for the jubilee – a combination of a Swedish Ö and a Danish Ø to signify the Öresund/Øresund Region and mark the 10 years that have almost passed.
“The reason we chose a design based on the letter Ø (Ö) is that this symbolises two sides of and two ways of looking at the same idea. Linking the letters in this way shows how the dual nature of the region’s cultural and linguistic identity can be linked in the form of a single symbol with a unique expression,” explains Patrik Danielsson, creative director for the DDB advertising agency in Denmark.
The symbol has not yet been adopted as a new logo, but it can be used by anyone who wishes to indicate that an arrangement, a publication, a concert or an exhibition forms part of the 10th jubilee celebrations. It sends out a clear signal about a big party, which everyone is welcome to join in!
Anyone who wishes to use the jubilee symbol for their own arrangements in connection with the Öresund Region celebrations can apply to the secretariat for the symbol to be sent to them. Simply e-mail your request to info@10aar.com.

Jubilee homepage in the pipeline
Some time during autumn 2009 we hope to present a special jubilee homepage, with information about the region and details of all the celebrations scheduled to take place. A special jubilee calendar will help to keep you updated about everything that is happening. We will endeavour to coordinate all the jubilee activities in the region to make sure that they complement one another in the best possible way. If you and your business or organisation have ideas about any activities, please let us know by e-mailing us at info@10aar.com We look forward to reading about your plans!
